A bilingual artisitc project exploring violence and trauma from the Spanish Golden Age to today
Vengadas is a new artistic project currently being developed by Victoria Rasbridge and Paula Rodriguez. The workshops and performance draw inspiration from canonical Spanish works from the early modern period by authors such as Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, and Miguel de Cervantes in order to create a new piece of theatre which reveals the shared experiences of the female protagonists. Focusing specifically on stories of violence and trauma in the original texts, this project seeks to reframe the female experience and to explore whether and how such narratives of violence can be told today.
A series of 8 workshops open to graduate students exploring stories of violence and trauma.
A series of 3 community outreach workshops in collaboration with associations supporting women fleeing gender-based violence.
The performance offers a new perspective on male-written female characters from the Spanish Golden Age and reflects upon the role of women, gender violence, and trauma from the historical period to the present day.
